Occasionally Cake Hosts Valentine Cookie Workshop In Anticipation Of Valentine's Day

On Sat., Feb. 9, Occasionally Cake of Old Town Alexandria is featuring a hands-on Valentine Day Cookie Decorating workshop for all ages at 207 King Street in Old Town Alexandria offered at three sessions, 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.  Participants will receive four cookies at the one-hour workshop, a decorating demonstration and a take-home heart cookie box for the decorated cookies. For the past five years, the City of Manassas Department of Public Works and Utilities and the Manassas City Public Schools have been ‘going green’ by championing the Go Green Initiative, a comprehensive environmental program that teaches earth-friendly behaviors and helps evaluate environmental impact. From school energy audits to learning gardens, Manassas City Schools are helping students grow up green and educating them on the benefits of recycling and reusing. Going Green Initiatives are endorsed by the National School Board Association, the National Recycling Coalition, and Parent-Teacher Associations throughout the United States. Man's Body Found Along Herndon Walking Path

HERNDON, Va. (AP) - Police say a man's body was found along a walking path in Herndon.

Police were called to the scene Saturday morning after someone discovered the body near the 700 block of Tamarack Way. Investigators believe the man may have been exposed to the elements without proper winter clothing on Friday night.

Police say the man may be in his 30s. His identity was not immediately released.

“Dance Your Heart Out” Campaign Raises Money For American Heart Association

In honor of National Heart Month, Metropolitan Fine Arts Center (MFAC) of Alexandria and Fairfax Station, Va. is featuring their “Dance Your Heart Out” campaign, offering unlimited adult dance and mind/body classes throughout February for a special price of $110. And MFAC will donate 10 percent of all “Dance Your Heart Out class fees to the American Heart Association. Schedules can be viewed at www.metrofinearts.com. Classes are available at Alexandria and Fairfax Station, Va. locations.

MFAC’s “Dance Your Heart Out” campaign includes all adult dance, yoga and MetroBarre classes. A regular adult class fee is 10 classes for $130. The February “Dance Your Heart Out” program provides unlimited adult class access at a significantly discounted set fee of $110 with 10 percent donated to the American Heart Association.

Riderwood retirement community in Silver Spring, MD, is sharing the recipe to its award-winning Crab Soup that  will be served January 20 at a President Obama Inaugural Gala hosted by the Delaware, Maryland and New York State Societies of Washington, D.C. The Gala will be held at 7 p.m. at The Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C. The more than 300 invited guests will include elected officials, friends of the states, and guests from all corners of the globe. Riderwood chefs will serve the soup to attendees.
