Favorite Restaurant

So, I have been in Chicago for the past few days getting out and checking out the sites - it is crazy how much that town has changed since I lived there. It’s always good to get back to my roots and the food there – unreal. I forget how many great restaurants there are out there and that is probably because I spend my life in one. So, I need some help. I don’t have much time to get out so I need some recommendations for some of Virginia and DC’s best restaurants. Any type of food, any type of ambiance – I just want to know what the next place is that I should try. Hook a brother up.

Also, in case you want to follow me further, check out my blog at http://stevenlukisblog.wordpress.com/. Look forward to seeing you there.

Bluemont Hosts Its 41st Annual Country Fair This Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19, the Bluemont Cititzens Association invites "neighbors" from surrounding communities to join them for a country fair. The fair, a tradition of 41 years, is held in the center of Bluemont, a quaint and delightful village in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.

The fair offers more than thirty types of attractions and is sure to please everyone in your family. You'll find juried crafters and live demonstrations of historic crafts. Ladies from towns all around will bring home-baked goods to please your palate, and there are even pie and pickle—yes, I said pickle—making contests. There is an abundance of live music, and your children will also be entertained with games and fun especially for them.

Come Play Some Drums Tonight!

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. there is a drum circle at Lake Fairfax in Herndon, VA. It will take place by the lake near the dock. To get there, you just pass the water park, and the drum circle will be before the picnic areas by the merry-go-round. Feel free to bring some extra instruments if you have them and something to sit on. Get ready to play some beats!

Don't Miss Herndon's Labor Day Jazz and Wine Festival

Herndon knows how to celebrate Labor Day right! This year’s Labor Day Jazz and Wine Festival will feature several well-known regional and national jazz performers, 15 fine artists with handmade items for sale, as well as wine tastings from over 12 different Virginia wineries.

The festival will be held on the Town Green in historic downtown Herndon on Monday, September 6th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Children are welcome and the admission ranges from $5-$15.

Herndon Celebrates Farmers’ Market Week

Governor McDonnell has designated this week, August 1st – 7th as Farmers’ Market Week. The market takes place in the 700 block of Lynn Street in front of the red caboose. An array of fresh fruits, flowers, vegetables, meats, jams, cheeses, eggs, jellies, plants, salsa, fish, and home baked goods will be for sale. All of the items are homemade, homegrown, or prepared by the vendor at the market.

While the market in Herndon runs every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to noon from May 6th to October 28th, this week has some special activities. The Herndon Market will celebrate the Farmers’ Market Week this Thursday, August 5th by holding a drawing to give away 10 cookbooks. The cookbook, Simply in Season, offers ideas for buying and cooking fresh produce and has already sold 86,000 copies since it was published in 2005.

In addition to the cookbook drawing, there will also be a photo contest.
