METROPOLITAN SCHOOL OF THE ARTS PRESENTS COPPELIA on SAT. MAY 17

Metropolitan School of the Arts will premiere their first spring ballet, Coppelia, performed by the Metropolitan Youth Ballet on Sat., May 17 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Theater in Alexandria, Va. Coppelia is the story of Swanhilda, a young girl who appears magically to bring a doll to life. The show is geared toward young audiences who can enjoy a ‘meet and greet’ with the characters after the show. Prince William County Arts Council and the Hylton Performing Arts Center of Manassas, Va. are hosting their fourth annual ARTS ALIVE Festival, a free, family-fun event that features local, Prince William County dancers, singers, artists, and performances, on Sat., May 3 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, at 10960 George Mason Circle Manassas, Va. Sun., Apr. 6, Metropolitan School of the Arts Benefit Concert

Lorton, Va.-based Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA), a non-profit performing arts academy, is hosting their annual Spring Benefit Concert on Sun., Apr. 6 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at The George Washington Masonic National Memorial at 101 Callahan Drive in Alexandria, Va. There will be performances by Metropolitan Youth Ballet, Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble, MSA’s Impulse Jazz Company, MSA Academy vocalists and live music by local musicians, like Voices of Liberty. Tickets are $75 per person or $100 per couple with proceeds benefitting MSA’s Alexandria studio’s Black Box Theater Project. The MSA Benefit Concert ends at 5:30 p.m. with a reception immediately following at the George Washington Masonic Temple from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Concert tickets include entrance to the reception.

Tim Federle, Broadway Performer and Author Visits Metropolitan School of the Arts in Alexandria

Tim Federle is best known for working on the choreography for Broadway’s Billy Elliott, performing in Broadway’s Little Mermaid, and he most recently wrote Amazon’s Best Book of Jan. 2014, Five, Six, Seven, Nate. Federle is coming to Northern Virginia, teaching “Tips and Tricks to Nail a Broadway Dance Audition” at MSA’s Alexandria studio at 5775 Barclay Drive on Wed., Feb. 5 for middle and high school students from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Workshops are open for advanced dance, theatre and music students. METRO SCHOOL of the ARTS HOSTS New Year Eve's BENEFIT GALA; FOR FAMILIES, SUPPORTS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton, Va. will host A New Year’s Eve State of Mind Benefit Gala on Tues., Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Waterford at Springfield at 6715 Commerce Street, Springfield, Va. The family-fun gala will provide entertainment for the whole family. Tickets are $120 per adult for ages 21 years old and older; $79 for youths, 13 years old to 20 years old; $49 for children, 6 years old to 12 years old; and 5 years old and younger are free. Cost includes cabaret performances, live band, pre-dinner reception, holiday buffet, silent auction, dessert buffet, New Year’s Eve toast, party favors and all beverages.

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Lorton, Va. will host their annual Breakfast with Santa on Sun., Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Hotel Monaco, 480 King Street in Old Town Alexandria. Tickets range in price from $35 to $45 per person. All tickets can be purchased online at www.metropolitanarts.org

ThFrosty Follies’ performers will join Santa for the annual Breakfast with Santa. The family-event offers Sunday brunch at the Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria, complete with a live jazz performance from Metropolitan School of the Arts’ dancers, interactive song and dance workshop for the kids, special goody bags and visits from Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Suzy Snowflake and her International Dolls.
