Herndon Parks & Recreation is hosting "Fit Females: How to Fight the Metabolism Slow Down" on Tuesday, October 5. The seminar will be held at 814 Ferndale Ave in Herndon, VA from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Insurance companies state that they are willing to pay 100% of a "screening mammogram", but not for the “I think we found something”; what the @#!$ does that mean?  In my case, I felt a lump, and made the mistake of mentioning it to the technician during my mammogram.  Should I have mentioned the lump, or should have I played dumb?  Well, mentioning the lump cost me $600, and that is with my health insurance coverage (part of that was the “you need to come back because I think we found something” factor).  So two mammograms, $600 out of my pocket, two missed days of work, 4 weeks of no good sleep (because I could not get an appointment any earlier), and a potential ulcer from all the stress….it was normal!  Was it worth it?  Could I have done things differently? Well…. 

Herndon Community Center Fitness Studio Now Open!

The Studio features equipment unlike what you can find in the gym. We have suspension training, balance trainers, weights, bands, kettlebells, sandbags and the like. Programs offer something for everyone from the novice to the professional athlete.  All programs are limited to no more than 12 people so you have the individual attention you deserve. Try our Tough Enough for Men if you think you have what it takes or try our Prenatal Circuit Training for a safe prenatal strength workout.  Our expanded Youth Athletic Development program is sure to be a hit with any teen in your household.

Living Well Expo Coming Soon to Herndon

Announcing The Living Well Expo, the area's first region-wide health expo! Held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Dulles Hyatt in Herndon, presented by Title Sponsor Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, The Living Well Expo will bring together area residents and health care professionals and organizations under one roof for an entire day.  The Expo with feature health care exhibitors, interactive health & fitness demonstrations, a healthy food stage featuring demonstrations and cook-offs, free health screenings, entertainment, food, and much more!  We are also pleased to announce that Radio Disney will be prominently featured, bringing their "Move It" campaign to the Expo.  This event will be free to the public.

Herndon Community Center Introduces Revised Fees

The Herndon Community Center continues to offer classes for all ages and all interests. These classes are year round and give you the opportunity to learn some new skills or improve on the ones you have for a variety of different activities. Starting on September 7, the Herndon Community Center will have revised fees for admission and passes. Also, the center hours starting on September 7 are as follows:

Monday – Friday               6:00 a.m.

Smart Markets Inc., founded in early 2008 by Jean Janssen, is the newest group of farmer’s markets to the Northern Virginia area. Janssen herself has been a resident of Northern Virginia for 25 years.
