Pack Light, Pack Right While Traveling by Air This Fall

Fall is a time when millions of people around the country begin to make their travel plans. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the busiest travel times of the year are just around the corner, which include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. There are some great reasons why packing light will help make your trip easier and more enjoyable. And the good news is that it’s not difficult to do, either.

“If you want to pack right when you travel then you really need to focus on packing light,” explains Tina Aldatz, chief executive officer of Savvy Travelers. “There’s much less hassle and stress when you pack light and stick to the basics. You can put your focus on your travel, rather than having all of your attention go to dragging around way too much luggage.”

Suspect wanted for shooting at Herndon buildings


HERNDON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A person responsible for discharging a gun and hitting two buildings in two separate incidents in Herndon is being sought, Fairfax County Crime Solvers said.

The two incidents happened in the Herndon area earlier this month, officials said. The first incident happened on August 3, around 10 p.m. in the 2200 block of Monroe Street. The second incident happened between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. on August 4, authorities said. The incident happened in the 2200 block of Corporate Drive.

The business was closed in both incidents. The suspects fired several shots and hit the front of the building. The town of Herndon has had two similar cases, according to Herndon police.

The incidents in Herndon happened on July 23, July 24 and July 28/29.

Body found near Herndon parking garage identified


HERNDON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County police have identified the woman found dead next to a Herndon parking garage Tuesday.

Brooke Lee Lancaster, 19, of Ashburn was found dead in a grassy area next to the parking garage in the 2300 block of Dulles Station Boulevard at around 7 a.m.

Police say no foul play was involved in Lancaster's death and there is no public safety threat.

The cause of Lancaster's death is still under investigation.

Lancaster's body was found less than 12 hours after Fairfax County police found a body Monday night in Woodlawn Park in Mount Vernon. Police have not released the identity of that body, but said there is no public safety threat.

Body found near garage in Herndon


HERNDON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County police are investigating their second body found in 12 hours.

Police say the body of a woman was found near a parking garage at 2300 Dulles Station Blvd. in Herndon at around 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.

1 in custody, 3 sought in robbery of Herndon business


HERNDON, Va. (WUSA9) -- One suspect is in custody and three others are being sought in a robbery at a Herndon business Wednesday morning.

The robbery happened in the 1100 block of Elden Street around 8:45 a.m. at a checking cash business, WUSA9's Surae Chinn reports.

The investigation shows that four men, possibly with weapons entered the business and committed the robbery. One suspect was stopped at the scene, the other three fled on foot, Herndon police said.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Officers from Fairfax County Police, a helicopter and a K-9 unit searched the area for the other suspects. Fairfax County Schools in the area and a daycare center in the area were on lockdown for about an hour, police said.
