Fire breaks out at apartment in Herndon


HERNDON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Firefighters have responded to an apartment fire in the 13800 block of Jefferson Park Drive in Herndon, Va.

According to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Dan Schmidt, the fire started on the top floor of a four-story apartment building on Monday morning.

He says the fire is knocked down but firefighters are still on the scene knocking down hot spots.

No one was home when the fire started and there are no injuries, according to Schmidt.

There is heavy damage to the apartment and Schmidt said there is water damage to the lower floors.

MISSING: Katherine A. Rodriguez Navarrete, 15, Herndon


HERNDON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Herndon Police Department is searching for a missing 15-year-old who left home on August 16, 2014 and said she would return home the same night, however did not return, police said.

Katherine Rodriguez Navarrete, 15, is 5 feet and weighs 140 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes, police said.

She was last seen wearing a blue and gray North Face jacket, black leggings, and blue, and white, and gray Nike shoes, authorities said.

Katherine is believed to be in Fairfax County, police said.

City of Manassas residents can now use a more convenient way of receiving and paying their utility bill online. They have the option to pay by electronic check for free or pay a nominal fee to use their credit card. As of Sept. 1, the City of Manassas had more than 800 customers that have paid bills online, and almost 500 are using e-billing, enabling electronic notifications of due dates. Customers choosing to pay their bills by mail or in-person, can continue to do so.
