Harvest Moon Swimming Meet October 9 & 10

From the Town of Herndon:

The Herndon Community Center will be hosting the Harvest Moon Swimming Meet on Saturday and Sunday, October 9 and 10.  There will be no classes on these days and only the Fitness Room and Raquetball Courts will be available to the public. 

In addition, the Indoor Tennis bubble will be open and indoor and outdoor tennis classes will be held as scheduled.

Expect high volumes of traffic in and around the parking lots at the Community Center and plan your time accordingly.

Take a Halloween Themed Hayride in The Park

From the Fairfax County Park Authority:

Come out to Frying Pan Farm Park to enjoy a “hardly” haunted hayride this Halloween season. Rides will be offered on October 21, 22, 26, 27, 28 and 29, 2010. The 30-minute rides start at 5:30, 6 and 7 p.m., and the cost is $5 per person. Enjoy a treat afterward. The fun you’ll have at the farm is down right scary! America's Heart VETAIDE

"It's not about Politics...It's about People!"

Locally, join us at Jimmy’s Tavern for a day of fun and music to show support for our injured and returning troops! This is a free event for the entire family. No cover charges.

JIMMY’S TAVERN, 697 Springs St., Herndon, VA will be the Virginia location for the America’s Heart VETAIDE 10/10/10 event to raise the raise the much needed funds to assist our troops in the transition from military life to civilian life.

Event starts at 1:00 PM with football and a raffle. Raffles and Prizes all day. Bands start at 8:00 PM with BYRN, 9:30 PM - IN REMEMBRANCE, 11:00 PM – GO.

This is an all volunteer event. The bands are donating their time and talents. Jimmy’s Tavern is donating the space. All proceeds go directly to VETAIDE to be distributed to our forgotten heroes.

Fight the Metabolism Slow Down

Herndon Parks & Recreation is hosting "Fit Females: How to Fight the Metabolism Slow Down" on Tuesday, October 5. The seminar will be held at 814 Ferndale Ave in Herndon, VA from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Book Signing Event for the Homeless

The following was sent to us by Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church:

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Women’s Ministry is sponsoring a book signing on October 2, 2010, at 4 PM.  The event will feature Feed My Sheep, the story of one woman’s passionate desire to help the homeless.  Author, Rev. Denise Wilson, of Middleburg, Virginia, will talk about the book and will be available to sign copies.  The event is free of charge and open to the public.

NatureFest 2010: Connecting to Nature

On Sunday, September 19, The Friends of Runnymede Park and Herndon Parks and Recreation Department are co-sponsoring NatureFest 2010 at the Runnymede Park. The event will take place from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. and include 12 different stations throughout the park with hands-on activities and crafts. You will get a passport at the beginning of the event and get stamped at each station.  Be sure to get your stamp because you get a prize at the end of the day for a completed passport! There will also be food provided by JJ Deli.
