Chipotle BOORITO 2010: The Horrors of Processed Food

This was sent to us by Katherine Newell Smith KNS Promotion Inc.:

Chipotle is presenting “BURRITO 2010: The Horrors of Processed Food” ...and it is a bit different than BOORITO of years past.

Here’s how it works: stop by any Chipotle on Halloween, Sunday, October 31 between 6pm and closing time dressed up as a Horrific Processed Food item and, as a thank you for a $2 donation, you will get a huge, gourmet burrito made to your specifications. Chipotle will then donate up to $1 million dollars to Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

What if you could give just $25 and know that it would make a considerable difference to someone right here in our area?

Favorite Restaurant

So, I have been in Chicago for the past few days getting out and checking out the sites - it is crazy how much that town has changed since I lived there. It’s always good to get back to my roots and the food there – unreal. I forget how many great restaurants there are out there and that is probably because I spend my life in one. So, I need some help. I don’t have much time to get out so I need some recommendations for some of Virginia and DC’s best restaurants. Any type of food, any type of ambiance – I just want to know what the next place is that I should try. Hook a brother up.

Also, in case you want to follow me further, check out my blog at http://stevenlukisblog.wordpress.com/. Look forward to seeing you there.

Herndon Celebrates Farmers’ Market Week

Governor McDonnell has designated this week, August 1st – 7th as Farmers’ Market Week. The market takes place in the 700 block of Lynn Street in front of the red caboose. An array of fresh fruits, flowers, vegetables, meats, jams, cheeses, eggs, jellies, plants, salsa, fish, and home baked goods will be for sale. All of the items are homemade, homegrown, or prepared by the vendor at the market.

While the market in Herndon runs every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to noon from May 6th to October 28th, this week has some special activities. The Herndon Market will celebrate the Farmers’ Market Week this Thursday, August 5th by holding a drawing to give away 10 cookbooks. The cookbook, Simply in Season, offers ideas for buying and cooking fresh produce and has already sold 86,000 copies since it was published in 2005.

In addition to the cookbook drawing, there will also be a photo contest.
