Reminder: Detours Set for Thursday and Friday Nights

From the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project:

Interstate I-66 westbound at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) will be closed overnights Thursday, Nov. 11 and Friday, Nov. 12, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. because of Dulles Metrorail construction.


When I-66 westbound lanes close, thru traffic will be detoured on to the Dulles Connector Road west bound, to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn to the ramp to the Capital Beltway south toward Richmond. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the Beltway. For local traffic, drivers have options to exit I?66 prior to the closing.

Distracted Driving Awareness & Summonses on the Rise

From the Fairfax County Police Department:

            In an effort to increase public awareness on the dangers of distracted driving, police launched an intensive enforcement and education effort September 10; and they’re getting results.

            There was a 66 percent increase in citations written for failure to pay full time and attention (and texting while driving) in 2010 compared to the same time period in 2008. Police have issued 7,165 summonses for these offenses this year compared to 4,305 in 2008.

Motor Vehicle Decal Deadline Approaching

All motor vehicles, trailers, motorcycles and semi trailers normally garaged, stored or parked within the Town limits for more than 30 days are required to display a 2010/2011 decal by November 15, 2010.

Motor vehicle decal applications were mailed during the week of August 30, 2010; if you have not received your pre-printed application, please contact us at (703)435-6813 or email us at revenue@herndon-va.gov or you may download the form under related link to the right.

Decal applications may be mailed with check or money order to: Town of Herndon, Motor Vehicle Decal, P.O. Box 427, Herndon, VA 20172-0427 or you may stop by the Town of Herndon Municipal Center, 777 Lynn Street, Monday-Friday excluding Town holidays.

Extended hours:  This year vehicle decals may be purchased Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 10:00am-3:00pm.
