Herndon Celebrates Farmers’ Market Week

Governor McDonnell has designated this week, August 1st – 7th as Farmers’ Market Week. The market takes place in the 700 block of Lynn Street in front of the red caboose. An array of fresh fruits, flowers, vegetables, meats, jams, cheeses, eggs, jellies, plants, salsa, fish, and home baked goods will be for sale. All of the items are homemade, homegrown, or prepared by the vendor at the market.

While the market in Herndon runs every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to noon from May 6th to October 28th, this week has some special activities. The Herndon Market will celebrate the Farmers’ Market Week this Thursday, August 5th by holding a drawing to give away 10 cookbooks. The cookbook, Simply in Season, offers ideas for buying and cooking fresh produce and has already sold 86,000 copies since it was published in 2005.

In addition to the cookbook drawing, there will also be a photo contest. Come out to the market on Thursday, August 5th and take a picture of the Herndon Market to enter into the photo contest. Your photo must be submitted by August 18th and you will have the chance to win a prize package worth $100. All Herndon residents are encouraged to enter the photo contest because the market receiving the most entries also will receive a prize!
